Conversation starter

Do you know how you learn best?

Picture the scene. It is early Summer 1987. I am holed away in my plush student accommodation (with a lovely family) in Keele, Staffordshire busily trying to prepare for my final exams. My goal is to qualify as a Graduate of the Royal Society of Chemistry in just a month’s time.

Case study

Training

We were engaged by a manufacturing company to train production, quality and engineering staff in specific skills and equip them with various tools and techniques. By a combination of theory and (mostly) practical activities, the staff were enabled to:

– lead problem solving meetings in order to deal with customer and internal complaints.

– develop and maintain visual management across the production area to enhance knowledge, communication and decision making.

– manage their time more effectively.

– provide feedback to their peers and team members.

– deal with conflict.

Collaborations

Establishing connections and links in the industry

Working on behalf of Coleg Sir Gâr, an excellent further education college in Carmarthenshire with established links to industry, we have created and delivered the majority of a transformative team leader learning & development programme at a major mineral water manufacturer in Pembrokeshire.

Working closely with the manufacturer to agree and establish workshop content, a series of workshops were designed and delivered over a six month period to increase delegates’ self-awareness, knowledge, skills, attitudes and habits to enable them to grow into their new roles. The workshops, a blend of theory and practice with take away activities for implementing in Operations, included:

– Leading and Motivating a Team;
– Managing Conflict in the Workplace;
– Managing Employee Performance.

The level of engagement was excellent and the feedback from Operations, HR and the delegates was fantastic.
